Interesting, Informative & Entertaining
Fight Quest was originally seen on the Discovery Channel. 10 episodes were screened but there are 13 included on this DVD.
It follows 2 American fighters (1 an ex soldier and military bodyguard and the other a professional MMA fighter and maths teacher!) as they travel the world looking for a fight.
It covers most of the globe from USA to HK, Thailand, China, Phillipines etc and contains not just hand to hand combat but some weapon systems also.Follow doug and Jimmy as they find various Masters from each country they visit and have 5 days to learn as much as they can about each Martial Art before a fight with some of the styles top practitioners.I found it quite funny in a few instances when the guys reverted to boxing or grappling rather than the styles they spent 5 days trying to learn.
Some episodes are great and some are just ok. A few surprised me as I knew very little about certain styles of martial arts.
With some of the fights you can tell that the guys they fight are taking it easy on them but in certain episodes it is obvious that their oponents are trying to hurt Jimmy and Doug.
Highlights were the Hapkido, Kajukenbo, Kyukushin, Wing Chun, Kali, Jui Jitsu and Savate episodes and I enjoyed the rest apart from the Shaolin Temple episode. The Shaolin Temple came over as a kung fu theme park (staffed by highly talented acrobats and Chinese Wushu Performers) and they teach Wushu/Longfist and Sanda/Sanshou kickboxing and not the "original" Shaolin kung fu. [I mean, c'mon it was derelict until the popularity of Jet Li's "Shaolin Temple" movie came out in the early 1980's and they saw how much money they (the Chinese Government) could make for god's sake!!]
Sorry, rant over.
For those of you interested in Martial Arts it is a recommended purchase at the current price and it contains 3 unseen episodes to boot.
It was cancelled after the first series as well for some reason.
