La Coleccion Cubana is a rare selection of recordings discovered only recently in the vaults of EGREM, Cuba's state-owned record company. Unlike the majority of his aging Buena Vista Social Club compatriots, Ferrer was never a shining star in Cuba's rich musical firmament prior to the release of "that" breakthrough album. But for those who cared to look a little closer, the quality of his voice has never been in doubt, and here for the first time is an opportunity to discover why. The majority of tracks were recorded in the 1960s and 70s when Ferrer was working with his band Los Bocucus. Despite the tracks being discarded for so long, the production is crystal clear with Ferrer’s voice demonstrating a remarkably agility whether it be interwoven with a bolero son rhythm. Son dominates the vast majority of the material, but aficionados will recognise the rhythms of pilon, guaguanco, guaracha and guajira. Moments such as his biggest pre-BVSC hit "El Platanal de Bartolo" swing and shuffle with an infectious son-montuno rhythm while the enchanting horn evokes the warmth and sensual air of a Cuban evening. A romantic window to the past Colleccion Cubana will doubtless captivate all who step near. --Christopher Barrett

I am pleased to have discovered Ibrahim Ferrers wonderfull voice on this cd.
He is singing with that feeling of cuban lifestyles that brings me back in my mind , because I was lucky to hear him a live in Berlin this summer, and he is giving me that feeling back, when I am listening to the cd, as I am back in concerts in Berlin.
I also got Buenos Hermanos, and hopes he will produce several cd`s yet.
