Editorial Reviews
CD Description
With a quivering, seductive, mournful, and remarkably flexible voice, Concha Buika earned a healthy following in her homeland as the great `00s chanteuse of flamenco. The singer enchanted crowds on a U.S. tour just prior to her 2008 stateside debut, NINA DE FUEGO, a bewitching and diverse record featuring echoes of everything from Coltrane to Jobim to Radiohead. The sound ranges from the dark offbeat artistry of thetitle track to the downright breezy playfulness of "Arbolesde Agua", on an engrossing opening statement of an album.
Customer Reviews
BUIKA-nina de fuega
I heard this album, whilst on holiday in Girona (Spain).
It is a must buy album. Even if you can't understand Spanish, she has a wonderful voice. It has a contemporary-jazzy sound without losing the traditional Espanic feeling. thanks for readind DaveyT.
wonderful buika
Concha Buika is a revelation if you have never listened to her before. With a husky, impassioned voice, she stirs the emotions even if you don't speak a word of Spanish. She ranks alongside the great Cesarae Evora, who sings in Cape Verdian creolo and Portuguese with tha same enchanting effect. This CD is a winner for me!
no smoke without fire
Buika has a wonderfully smoky, sensual voice, which coupled with the minimalist accompniments of guitar or piano surrounds the lucky listener in a warm and vibrant fug - an album for long winter nights by the fire
