Information suitable for patients and doctors alike!
The Complete Family Health Guide contains an absolute wealth of information on all aspects of health and health care - taking you through the initial diagnosis stage; the medical tests you're likely to need to confirm such a diagnosis; what the treatment entails; and overall prognosis and management. It's incredibly detailed throughout, and for each illness/disease there is also a link to websites and organisations containing further information.

The other topics covered in depth are all prescribed medicines and drugs (including information on side-effects); a guide to the different types and levels of hospital and community based care and what to expect; mental health issues; and symptom charts with diagnostic tools enabling you to come to a conclusion as to what maybe wrong with you and whether or not to contact your doctor or hospital.

There is also a chapter on genetics and how your genetic make-up can affect your health, and there is also a chapter using the 'cradle-to-grave' approach which outlines the types of illnesses affecting each age group and life stage.

I think health practitioners would benefit from this book just as much as patients, and you'd be hard pressed to come across another medical book as clear and concise as this one. I would also say that this book is likely to last about 20 years before you need to think about replacing it for an updated version.

A highly informative reference book with excellent diagrams
I bought this book as I am interested in health issues and it has definitely fulfilled it's purpose. It contains detailed information on the vast majority of illnesses and ailments, and has good descriptions and pictures of all medical tests and examination procedures. The only problem with the book is it's so heavy!
