The Body Scan is a meditation practice that helps us to develop habits of greater ease and awareness of the body. Adopting a comfortable posture (lying down or sitting) we 'scan' through the whole body with our awareness, using the breath to 'let go' of areas of pain and/or tension.This CD contains two body-scan meditations of different lengths. A sensitive but powerful approach to illness
My seventy four year old mother suffered a sudden and very severe stroke four years ago that left her with extensive brain injury. She has no movement below the neck, a restricted 'swallow' and limited speech. 'The Mind' is the only sphere open to her with which she can truly work and engage. The'Body Scan' led meditation never fails to accord her a sense of peace and harmony. Of all the different therapies and pastimes we offer her, Vidyamala's and Sona's led meditations are the only activites she consistently wants to engage with. I recommend this cd without reservation not only to those in pain but also to their carers and loved-ones. Doing this meditation together has transformed many 'would-be' depressing and disheartening visits into occassions of acceptence and hope.
Thank goodness for this CD
Last year someone close to me died. Like a lot of people in this situation I had difficulty sleeping. I didn't want to take pills but I was just holding too much stress in my body to unwind and I was waking in the night. The tiredness just made it more difficult to recover from the bereavement.
Then I started to use the Body Scan CD. If I woke in the night I would reach for my headphones, lie quietly in the dark and let the words guide me step be step, getting in touch with each part of my body, letting go of the tension.
Through repeated listening I now find I know the techniques well enough to be able to use them anywhere. Recently I used the technique five minutes before going on stage to give a speech. I was so chilled by the time I stood up to talk!
I've recommended this CD to just about everyone I know. Even my parents use it!
