All you need to know about rehoming a dog with a past.
There have been many books written about dogs... Books relating to specific breeds, training dogs, behavioural problems and numerous other subjects relating to dogs. A few contain a paragraph or two, or even a chapter relating to the problems you might have when rehoming a dog.
This book is devoted to the subject. It is extremely well written and easy to read... The sort of book you can refer to again and again. It is worth reading before you consider taking on a dog with a past. The author offers help with almost every conceivable problem you may encounter when you take on either a pedigree or crossbred dog.
The author takes you through the basic personality traits of different breeds and types. She helps you to understand the factors that make a dog what it is. She explains what a dog needs through the five stages of a dog's life... from a puppy to a pensioner. She gives you an insight and understanding of how the mind of a rescued dog works... What's normal and what's abnormal behaviour and how you can help the dog adjust to the new home with advice on how to get things right and keep your sanity!
You will find a useful A to Z guide to possible behaviour problems and how to recognise them. There is advice on what to do and when to call in the experts.
There is advice on basic training and when you should start, including help on building a relationship together with you and the family... A chapter giving you an insight into canine activities that you may like to take part in... With another telling you all you need to know about your dog's health and how to have a happy dog.
I highly recommend this book as essential reading if you are considering taking on a dog that needs a new home.
very helpful!
This is a great book for anyone who is looking at rehoming a rescue dog. It gives lots of information on different types of rescue dogs and a variety of problems involved with them. Also how to bond and gain a relationship with your dog.
I could relate a lot of the issues discussed to when my rescue first arrived and I'd have loved to have had this book before rather than after i rehomed her a couple of years ago!
Having said that, even if you already have your rescue friend, this book still has some useful tips and will help if you have any problems.
However, if you dont have any behaviour problems with your dog you may end up skipping alot of the book because it deals with issues like aggrssion etc.
