Manufacturer's Description
The call of duty needs answering once again, as the blockbusting first person shooter series returns to the modern day. A direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, you now play new character Sgt Gary "Roach" Sanderson. Your commander is "Soap" from the first game as you join a multinational anti-terrorist squad out to stop Russian ultra nationalists.
Watch your squad grow from inexperienced rookies to veteran warriors |
The story mode features an even more varied series of locales than before, including a snowbound mission that starts with a daredevil mountain climb and ends with a high speed snowmobile chase as you make your escape. With other levels set in Afghanistan, Rio de Janeiro and even underwater this has more action than a dozen Hollywood blockbusters.
But that's just the single player mode - the multiplayer is even more ground-breaking than before, with new co-op options and even more rewards and perks for competitive play.

After working on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for EA, Infinity Ward's first game as their own company was fellow World War II title Call of Duty. Since then the California company has never had time to do anything else, as the ongoing series has become one of the best-selling of all time.

Worth the wait
I picked this up last night at midnight from the place i work (game) and have been playing it ever since , it is outstanding. Graphically it is on another level to nearly all games out at that monent. It looks great on an HD tv but m sure it would look excellent on a normal tv. The single player took nearly six hours for me to complete which is quite short, it does not disapoint being all action from start to finish in a very nice variety of locations. There is a point in the story which is simply put the gaming moment of this year for me ( i know that makes no sense but when you arrive at it you will know). The only flaw is there is no Co-op story mode but that is made fine by the actual Spec-ops mode which is co-op and has a variety of missions, which are so good to play with a friend. I tried firing up the multiplayer earlier on this morning and already theres a load of people playing it and with good reason its great also i would say its better than in the original because of all the small difference that have been made, they add up to something big i feel.
Overall if you own a 360 you must buy this and experience the best game of the year.
Worth every penny - and yes - it meets all the hype in the world !
This is gaming at its absolute best. In HD is mind-blowing; the graphics incredible and the sound effects awesome. The maps are huge, vast and detailed and this game will (like its predecessor) provide months and months of top quality gaming.
After the wait, the hype and the queueing at midnight, I'm pleased to say it was all worth it. To anyone luckily enough not yet to have discovered the awesomeness of the COD games then buy in the knowledge you're about to enter a new world of incredible game play; to those already familiar - why haven't you bought this game yet ??
The "sad" thing about this game is that it blows away other "similar" titles, kinda spoils you, and sets a very high benchmark for future titles to attain.
Modern Warfare 2
The fastest selling game ever to date, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is a fantastic sequel to one of the most popular games of the current generation. It goes without saying that anyone who enjoyed the first in this offshoot of the "Call of Duty" series will adore what's on offer here. The gameplay is identical to the original, with the age old adage of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" very appropriate here.
The main thing people wanted to know was if Infinity Ward could top "Modern Warfare" and in short the answer is a simple: No. This game does pretty much everything you would expect from it, with the added Spec Ops mode adding more replayability to scenes from the campaign, but overall the game fails to have the impact of the story of the original and the single-player seems very short. It is understandable that CoD4's popularity came mainly from the multiplayer, which explains the focus on it here, but another few levels would have been nice.
It's easy to criticise "Modern Warfare 2" for being too short because what is there is so blindingly fantastic. Every mission has its charms, with notable mentions being the sections in the frozen arctic and the Brazilian section particularly enjoyable, if quite difficult. The graphics are a slight step up from the first game, with more character detail obvious from the beginning. The level layouts are mostly completely linear, with very few alternate routes, but all is built to tell the story, which, if not as great as before, is still a draw.
The game controls beautifully and the multiplayer mode has proven bulletproof for me over standard broadband. I've had no trouble with it at all. Again, the strange idea of players getting perks for playing more means that there will always be players with advantages before the round even begins is still there. It rewards constant play, but handicaps the newcomers, which is a little unfair. It's not as balanced as the likes of the Halo multiplayer and the ranking system doesn't influence what round you'll be put into, which is a shame, as the technology is there and it would make sense to have veterans playing against one another, rather than have two or three fully leveled up players in a mix of lower ranked beginners. This is countered by teh relatively fast progression through the levels, but is slightly daunting at first.
The best thing about "Modern Warfare 2" is definitely the immersion factor. You really do feel as if you are in the scene, doing your part. It's great to be part of a bigger picture, just one more guy on the battlefield, rather than an all-conquering super soldier capable of taking on an entire world by yourself.
I will close this review by simply saying that you would be mad not to buy "Modern Warfare 2." It is definitely one of the very best games of the year and offers a truly amazing experience, brief in single player and plentiful in replaying and multiplayer. Top stuff.
