Editorial Reviews

DVD Description
A compelling contemporary series which uses a unique blend of crime mystery, science and detection. Forensic pathologist Dr Sam Ryan has an all-embracing, passionate notion of justice which quite often does not accord with the police’s objective of getting a conviction. This can lead to trouble, both in her personal and professional lives, but to Sam, each dead body deserves nothing but the truth. This series tackles child murder, ritual killing, a murder in the police cells and an arranged marriage which leads Sam to confront her own demons.

Synopsis
For forensic pathologist Dr Sam Ryan, solving child murders and ritual killings is all in a day’s work. But in her search for justice and truth, she must confront her own demons, particularly when faced with personal tragedy.

An excellent start to an excellent series5
What a great series Silent Witness is and it is still going strong. In fact I watched an episode of the new series last night. This 2 disk dvd contains the first series.
The first story Buried Lies is a strong start and introduces us to Dr Sam Ryan played by Amanda Burton. The plot concerns the death of a young girl who is thought to have fallen from a swing and drowned, Sam has other ideas.
Next up is Long Days, Short Night. This was the first episode I ever watched and features Colin Salmon (Tomorrow Never Dies)as a man suspected of a ritual killing.
Ken Stott stars in the next episode Darkness Visible. Sam investigates a custody death in a police cell. Could there be a cover up ?
The final story Sins Of The Fathers is about a charred body found in a Vietnamese restaurant.
All in all an excellent start to a great series. The supporting cast in this series John McGlynn and Clare Higgins give very good performances. Let us hope that the rest of the series is released soon.

a classic - easy to see why5
Silent Witness is a long-running British television thriller series made by the BBC's in-house Drama Serials production department. Each new case is original, well constructed and thoughtfully presented, addressing specific and often controversial issues. Unlike some American drama, the focus is on the storyline and character development. The stories are told with care, in detail, with real empathy, unlike the quick, crude, flashy effects in many series. They are challenging - plots and subplots intertwine cleverly, meaning it's not a "background" show, but one which is completely consuming for the viewer.

The theme music for Silent Witness is a song called "Silencium" by John Harle sticks in one's ears.

I enjoyed the understated, but powerful performance of the "hero" Amada Burton, complemented by the other member of the casts.

All in all, I really did immensely enjoy the first series.

Silent Witness Series 1 Amazing5
Well folks I'm sure you have seen this on TV. Its a great show and now that Amanda Burton has left the show its great that we can still see her. It's been a long time coming for this show to be available on DVD lets just hope its not going to take ten years for series two to be released.
