Triathlons for Women
As an athlete looking for some help I found this book mediocre. If you are completly new to all of the three disciplines of triathlon this could lead you in the right direction however I doubt there will be many readers who will be a complete novice at all three sports. If you have done any sort of training there are a few pointers which may prove to be of some use but on the whole I found that it wasn't telling me anything I didn't already know. I did do a novice tri at the end of this years season and was looking for some helpful hints or training pointers specifically for women but found only a few and none that I couldn't have reasearched on the web or magazine rack. I found that the book was easy to follow and had good diagrams but I could have found the same information from a specialist magazine rather than shelling out on the book. If you are a complete and utter beginner then the technical stuff may be of an advantage but if you have a basic general fitness and are willing to "give it a go" get yourself down to your nearest novice triathlon come the start of the race season and just go with the flow. Plenty of spectators at these events are triathletes and are more than willing to point you in the right direction. All in all though some of Sally's motivational spiel was worthy of reading. She has achieved alot within her sport and is obviously overjoyed at the leaps and bounds it has made in the last few years. What gets alittle sickening is the constant referal to her foundation every third page. If you like American feel good stuff then this is for you, if you wanted info on training and your not a complete and utter beginner then save your cash and head for the newsagent or do some basis research.
