Severn Valley Add - On
Having just received this new title from Just Trains, I was expecting to be critical of on-line reviews that I have read.
But, after I installed and ran the route in Train Sim it exceeded my expectations enormously.
There are some excellent representations of loco's ( both steam and diesel ) which are extremely well designed and look very authentic.
The route route itself is very well presented and the sound effects are great.
Obviously a lot of hard work has been put into this new product and I would recommend this title very highly.
Just the best
You cannot beat this add-on. What you can clearly see here is the careful recreation of this well-loved route by people and programmers who actually care for the route and the product they are putting out to represent their railway.
The textures are simply fantastic. The track bed and rails are the best I've ever seen, they are so clear and they don't tend to go fuzzy or hazy as the rails on other add-ons do. You actually feel like you are driving through the English countryside and to hear the varied bird songs and the real hurly-burly noises of people bustling through the stations is just superb. Driving past the West Midland Safari Park you can hear the lions and tigers roaring! Plus rabbits will be seen around the tracks! There is everything here, balloons, campsites, water works, viaducts, bridges, traffic. It's a great touch to see the JCB fill up your steam tender with coal.
There are 22 activities to enjoy and most of them are fairly long in duration. Plus you can make your own activities if you want. The rolling stock is superb, excellently crafted and designed. There are plenty of steam locomotives, plus two diesel ones. Stunning passenger carraiges, and mail vans, brake vans and other goods wagons.
The stations are wonderful, all lamp-lit with flower boxes. Very well re-created.
The route is only 16 miles long, but trust me, you won't grow tired of it. Some train sim fans who are used to high-speed routes may be put off by the speed limit of 25mph, no faster. But you won't be bothered too much as there is more to look at while you are driving than on most other add-on routes. The speed limit also makes the route feel much longer in distance.
You will need quite a powerful PC to run this add-on. 1.4Ghz processor, at least 256MB RAM, 1.3Gb or Hard Disk space and 32MB Graphics Card, but it's well worth it.
Best MSTS Add-in
The graphics, etc in the add-in pack make this the best add-in pack for MSTS.
You may need a high-spec machine to see it at its best.
But with excellent graphics and following of the route including the new shed at Kidderminster make this a great add-in pack.
