Waste of money
The so called realistic prices were still more expensive than most online stamp sites and in 90% of the cases the values were almost exactly half the price of the Stanley Gibbons catalogue. Even if you have difficulty with maths it will still work out cheaper buying a calculator and doing SG Value divide by two!
There are no catalogue numbers. You have to rely on year and description for identification. There are no illustrations of watermarks. Just stating "Large crown", "Medium Crown" and "Small Crown" means nothing if there is no comparison illustrations.
Only selected stamp illistrations are displayed so if you are not familiar with many of the issues where the stamps in the set vary greatly in style or where two sets from different years look almost identical then you will end up making mistakes.
By the way, the Stanley Gibbons Colour Collect British Stamps catalogue has full illustrations of all watermarks and an illustration of almost every stamp.
In order to use this catalogue you will have to look up and identify the stamp in Stanley Gibbons Colour Collect British Stamps catalogue first and then cross reference by description and year. And for what? To end up in most cases halving the price?
I'll give it 2 stars because of the introduction though. I have to say that even though I have been collecting British stamps since I was child and consider myself quite knowledgeable, I really enjoyed the introduction to collecting British stamps at the beginning of the catalogue. It was good revision. The book is not worth buying for that alone though.
