Nice beginner projects
This is quite a good book for absolute beginners to metalwork but for anyone who has worked with metal in the past the book is fairly basic. The projects are all quite large like frames, boxes, clocks and plant pots. I was hoping for more detail on jewellery items and soldering of pewter, but it doesn't cover soldering at all. The only jewellery project is a small pendant and brooch which doesn't really fire the imagination. Having said that, the projects are really beautifully designed and the photos are fantastic. In particular I loved the light switch cover projects!
For the non-jewellery oriented hobbyist this would be a really good and easy to follow guide with not a great deal of expense involved (lots of glue and cost-effective gilding methods). For people who want to go a lot more in-depth with casting or soldering of pewter this is a bit of a disappointment.
Fantastic book
At last there is a pewter book that takes a beginer through the basic steps to more advanced work in clear, well layed out steps. It was really easy to understand and the crafters tips are a great help. The photography is inspirational and the designs at the end stimulated my imagination. Great buy for anyone interested in learing new crafts.
