    Belkin Surgemaster3
Only after purchasing this item did I find that it would not do the job intended, i.e. protect my computer installation. Belkin have developed three stages of protection and this product is the lowest, specifically intended for home (kitchen) appliances such as microwaves, blenders etc. This is termed as "Essential" protection. The next stage is "Advanced" , suitable for Mid level Audio/visual equipment while the third stage "Extreme" is for High Technology equipment (computer etc).

The product works for me as I have placed the lesser items on this strip (sound, telephone, printer) and purchased the Extreme protection for the main computer equipment. Also each strip must be connected to a mains wall socket, as trailing two strips in series voids the guarantee. Presumably, you lose the benefit of the surge protection.

Another highly efficient, yet underrated product from Belkin. For those amongst you that do not know, your electrical equipment is at risk of being damaged through electrical spikes or surges and most insurance companies have small print which will not cover you for equipment that has been damaged as a result of such events. I purchased the SurgeMaster to safeguard my TV, Video and DVD player. The product is compact and well built and comparatively cheap in view of the protection it provides for your equipment. I would (s)urge you to buy this product for your own piece of mind. After all, what do you stand to lose?

A surge protector is the thing no one tells you you need. You might think that the electricity supply in the UK is stable, but not so. Brief power cuts can happen at any time, along with spikes in the voltage. Even turning the mains on and off at the wall can cause a power surge. All this can damage your equipment. My satellite receiver had all the audio circuits blown by a power surge and it cost £120 to repair. (Satellite receivers can be particularly sensitive to voltage changes.) So a multi-socket adaptor with built in protection for this price is outstanding value for money.
