Manufacturer's Description
Surf the Web, chat with friends, do homework, play games, even burn DVDs and CDs to create your own video or musical masterpiece. In your favourite café. At 2 am. With built-in wireless capability and 512MB of memory as standard, the iBook G4 delivers today’s digital lifestyle to your backpack.

Your Digital Life, To Go
With a fast PowerPC G4 processor running at accelerated speed and built-in wireless capability, the iBook G4 introduces impressive performance and flexible mobility to everyday work and play. The iBook G4 even comes complete with the entire suite of Apple’s iLife ’05 applications, so you can edit movies, assemble and order a customised photo book, record your own songs and more — right out of the box. iBook G4 is your go-anywhere digital solution.

Lap Cat
Every iBook comes with Mac OS X Tiger, the latest release of the world’s most advanced operating system. Tiger boasts more than 200 new features, including Spotlight, the lightning-fast search tool that lets you find anything on your system as fast as you type, and Dashboard, the home to handy widgets that access timely information such as train timetables or TV schedules (Train timetables or TV schedule widgets are not included with Mac OS X Tiger, but are available from third parties via free download). Tiger turns your iBook into a finely-tuned instrument that lets you focus on the tasks at hand, whether you’re syncing tunes to your iPod, creating a family photo album with iPhoto or playing the latest 3D games.

You Can Take It with You
Built-in wireless capability on every iBook G4 means you can work or play anywhere. With AirPort Extreme technology fitted as standard, the iBook can surf the Web in any Wi-Fi hot spot, from hotels to coffee houses. With an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express Base Station in your home or office, you can get online from the comfort of your sofa. And the included Bluetooth 2.0+EDR module lets you connect wirelessly to a wide range of peripheral devices, from mobile phones to wireless keyboards. The iBook also offers an incredible six hours of battery life, so it keeps going as long as you do.

As the lightest all-in-one consumer notebook on the market, the 12.1-inch iBook G4 weighs in at a mere 2.2 kg (4.9 pounds). The 14.1-inch model weighs just 2.7 kg (5.9 pounds). Many textbooks weigh more than either one. The iBook G4 is thin, too — a svelte 3.42 cm (1.35 inches), to be exact — making this impressive notebook small enough to fit in a backpack and light enough to carry around all day.

Take a Scroll
Scrolling through Web pages or large documents on a trackpad can challenge even the most nimble fingers. That’s why every iBook G4 features a new trackpad with scrolling capability. Just drag two fingers over the trackpad to scroll vertically and horizontally or pan around any active window. Change this feature to suit your needs: customise your trackpad settings or turn off scrolling completely via System Preferences.

Fall for iBook
Now every iBook G4 is equipped with Apple’s Sudden Motion Sensor to help protect your most valuable asset: your data. The Sudden Motion Sensor senses change in axis position and accelerated movement. In the event of a drop or fall, the Sudden Motion Sensor instantly parks the hard drive heads so they won’t scratch the disks on impact, lessening the risk of damage and improving your chances of retrieving valuable data. When the Sudden Motion Sensor senses your iBook G4 is once again level, it unlocks the hard drive heads automatically.

An Impressive Display
Both iBook models offer brilliant 1024-by-768 pixel resolution — ideal for doing everything from working on spreadsheets to displaying your movies and digital pictures in millions of colours. What’s more, the iBook display scales down beautifully, again with millions of colours, for special games and applications optimised for 800-by-600 or 640-by-480 pixel resolutions. And both come powered by an ATI Radeon 9550 graphics processor with 32MB of dedicated video memory and AGP 4x support for dazzling 3D graphics that bring games to life.

Great way to venture into the world of Apple5
Having realised that all I ever really use on my PC laptop is email/Internet/MS Office, the thought of getting an iBook took shape in my mind. I asked a few Mac users about the whole 'how compatible with my old PC files?' questions and found positive responses. Now I have just bought one and I'm transferring everything from my Windows XP machine without any trouble at all. This machine is very small, light, though fast and with a superb battery life. I have found it an excellent step into the world of Apple products - especially as I have not used a Mac since 1990! I'd recommend any PC user looking at new laptops to compare them to the iBook - once you get over the Apple v Windows issue then this machine does compare well. As well as great performance, it also looks fantastic!

A great computer (even if the PowerBook is even better)5
I am (still) a power PC user (and before that a mainframe and Fortran user - but that is a story for another place and time). I have used quite a number of versions of Windows on quite a variety of desktop and portables both at work and at home (I used to build my own home systems), and I still use Windows on a PC in the office. When faced with upgrading my home system I decided to try a Mac for three reasons. Firstly, my wife would probably be able to better understand and manage a Mac. Secondly, I wanted to do more with my music and photo collections, and the Mac looked like a better option. Thirdly, I felt that Mac offered a more robust and secure platform, and I liked the approach to WiFi. So I started by buying an iBook G4 for my wife. Within 2 months I had bought a PowerBook G4 for myself. The Mac is an impressive machine, and very easy to set up and connect to the Internet (using WiFi). On the other hand, being a typical Windows-man it took me quite a while to adapt to the way OS X works and all the features, etc. Using a Mac means thinking about things in a different way, this is more than just changing the odd menu, it is more a different way of imagining how to do things and how the machine should work. It also took me a while to get all the software together and Office is quite an expensive package what ever option you take. So I use my PowerBook and my wife has her iBook. She has a technical background and has adopted the Mac without any difficulties, even if she is not a demanding user. What is important is that OS X is a very robust system. My wife has had no problems at all with her iBook and both of us wholeheartedly recommended both the machine and the "Mac experience".

This laptop is well worth the money.

So, it's now a windows operating system, but you can buy windows for the mac and lots of downloads and programs run on the mac. The only problem you might have is if you use specific software at work that you need to work on at home, that only works with windows.

It seems to get better and better as you discover new functions and capabilities.
