Good but not perfect
I bought this item to replace a woolworths filter machine that was wearing out. So.....I expected perfection and style from delonghi. I got style........but not perfection. To be fair ir does make great coffee and lots of it! The one flaw (and there is only one) is that once you have used it once, and you want to refil it with coffee and water, you have to open the lid. And therein lies the problem. The lid opens.............and poors loads of water down the back of the machine. The lid is a TERRIBLE design. Awful. Childish in its error. I have told delonghi, and they replied "if u want a job as a designer, please note we have no vacancies at this time"!!
Hopefully they will fix this at some point, but until I get a new one I have to open the lid only part-way, until the water trapped inside it has drained away. I should NOT have to do this! The awful and lazy hinge design of the lid is what causes this.
However, I do like the timer button, so that one can arrange to have coffee made for you and get up to a hot fresh cup of coffee in the morning (although it would have been nice to be able to choose to have the 'aroma' button activated as well). And I like the fact that it makes a lot of coffee, meaning that, even if I have guests over, I rarely have to make another jug in in any given day.
Basically, if you are not bothered about 'a little water' all over your counter or work surface, and you want large amounts of very well made coffee then this is the perfect filter coffee maker. If a watery mess would bother you, then choose someting else. At this price (and from such a huge company) there can be NO excuse for such crass and lazy designing.
Just the cuppa
This is a very good coffee machine. The parts are easy to remove and clean, it keeps the coffee hot not just warm when left on the plate and makes a great cuppa. The one thing I will say as with most coffee makers it does take some time to brew. Filled up to the 5 cup mark normally takes about 10 minutes. 5 cup line fills 2 large mugs. Had this for 2 months now and very pleased and a bargain for under £30.
Good coffee
We find this makes good coffee, especially when the aroma button is activated. The ability to remove the jug for a few moments, whilst the machine is brewing, has proved very useful. We do not usually use the stay hot facility but when tried it worked very efficiently.
