From the Publisher
Photography, or `light drawing,' is essentially a combination of technique and visual observation. Developing your ability to make successful photographs must include some basic technical theory, otherwise you will not get the most out of your tools, fuIly explore materials, or turn out reliable results. Basic Photography explains the equipment and techniques, provides background on how current 'silver halide' processes work, and shows the relationship between visual and technical aspects of photography. It provides the underpinning knowledge to allow you to take truly creative and original pictures, whilst at the same time acting as a handy reference source for when imaginative ideas require the learning of new techniques.Basic Photography is an international bestseller with a long established reputation as the introductory textbook for photography. Initially published over thirty years ago the book has been re-written and revised regularly, and translated into four foreign language editions. It remains a classic reference source for students and newcomers to photography of all ages.Basic Photography:7 assumes no theoretical knowledge of photography, nor any scientific background7 provides a summary of each chapter for easy revision7 allows you to put into practice what you have learned through practical projects7 is a recommended textbook for A Level, City and Guilds, HND and Degree photography courses7 covers both black and white photography, processing and printing; and colour photography and film processing7 encourages study of the roles that photographs play and the structure of picture making, alongside technical skills

Comprehensive5
I was given this book as a present at Foundation Art Level and it has continued to be my 'bible' throughout my Photography degree course. Comprehensive, detailed and written in entirely understandable terms, Langford should be the first port of call for all interested in the mechanics of photography.

Excellent for those interested in the science and techniques4
Langford is a well-known teacher of photography at university level, and this is his basic-level textbook. Don't be put off by this, though - he uses a nonacademic style which will appeal to the lone or even casual student of photography.

Covering simple optics, lenses, cameras and film, the author guides the student through each topic with good (not brilliant) diagrams and graphics.

Will provide a good grounding in principles, as well as a number of useful tips based on the science. For the more serious enthusiast, a must-have.

Great for beginner and for reference5
This book is perfect for anyone starting out in the bobby and also for more experienced photographers who need a reference source. Each section is well layed out with a summary at the end plus projects for the reader to try.

The book covers both film and digital so everyone is catered for, including medium and large format users.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who has an ineterest in taking photo's and who wants to improve there knowledge and ability
