Irresistibly good
I suppose it's fair to say that Erin Hunter can do no wrong in my eyes. I'm such a massive fan of the Warrior Cats series (and how can I not be? They're just TOO charming too resist!) that I'm bound to be biased.
But I really tried to approach this with an open mind. Really, I did. And you know what? I still adored it. Granted, it has a rather slow beginning, but just wait...I promise you, it's biding it's time. It's building, slowly stacking up the tension until it (quite literally, in many ways), snaps, and all hell breaks loose. More revelations are made in the final half of this book are more than the last series alone gave, and there is one incident here which WILL surprise, shock and upset fans (in a good way), and will surely keep everyone talking.
True, as as the first book in an arc of six, it's fair to say this does a lot of setting up. But this is setting things up for a tantalisingly irresistible series.
After the wonderful Bluestar's Prophecy, where many agreed Erin Hunter rediscovered the essence of what makes Warrior Cats so great, I can safely say that this continues the quality, whilst being entirely it's own story. Truly, quite simply, staggeringly good.
I can't resist Warrior Cats, and why should I when it's this good? And you shouldn't either. Get it. In fact, get several, and give them to your friends, too.
