More about the people that the cakes
I recieved the book yesterday, so I have just had a quick flick through. Don'y buy this if you are wanting information on the cakes it is mostly about the staff and the production of the program. There are pictures of their finished cakes but most are tiny (2cm across). If you want to know more about the people behind the company then it will be a good book to buy.

exactly what it said it was
I had read about this book before ordering and the pre release info made it clear it was not about making cakes, but about the bakery and the people who work there and star in the show. It tells you all about the man himself "Duff" as well as all the staff, not just the main people featured it the show. If you watch Ace of Cakes then Duff said in the show that there are a lot of good cake books out there and it was not his intention to make another, but to give an insight into what makes them the company they are. I would say it does that very well.

I have enjoyed reading the book, and do not regret buying it, but do not buy it if you want an instruction manual. There are a lot of cakes to look at, and a large open out section in the middle with hundreds of very small pictures of their cakes, and they are small, but they get a lot in. There are also a few bigger pictures of cakes, and a lot of the staff working.

All in all, a good book if you love the programme.

poor show Duff - very disappointed
Got this book in the post yesterday, amazingly well done amazon seeing as there is a full scale postal strike on. I was eagerly awaiting the book and a chance to try out some of Duff's brilliant cakes and hoping to get tips on the more difficult aspects of cake decorating - especially since the guys at charm city cakes are so brilliant at fantastic technical cakes. I was so disappointed. This book is a "behind the scenes at the cake shop / on set with all the crew / how cool are we" book. nothing remotely interesting to a cake decorator who is looking for inspiration.

Do not buy this book if you want help with queries , decorating hints and tips and cake ideas to copy. Do buy this book if you are a fan of the show and want info into the team of staff who work there.

I will be returning mine forthwith.

Sad really.
