Management Today
Some people seem to be just great at their job. They glide effortlessly onwards and upwards through all the politics, the back stabbing, the system, the nonsense that goes on. They always seem to say and do the right thing. Everybody likes them. They get pay rises and promotion. They get on with the boss. And somehow, they do all these without breaking much of a sweat or seeming to put in excess effort. Is there something they do that we don’t? Is it a natural ability or something we could all learn? The answer is a most definite and resounding yes. They know the 'Rules of Work'. These rules are about how you are seen to be doing your job – brilliantly and efficiently. They are about how you appear to others – successful and confident. The Rules of Worktakes simple information about how people relate to each other in a completely artificial environment - the workplace – and uses it to promote your rise up the ladder of success. This is the book for you if you want to get on and up without becoming ruthless or unpleasant. This is the book for you if you want to be successful and still be able to live with yourself, and be regarded as a thoroughly decent person by your colleagues and bosses.

Brilliant Insight.
As someone who was approaching their first corporate job I found this book invaluable.
I can see how it may be of limited use to those who are progressing well, but if you are stuck in a rut, or entering a new field of employment I would recommend this book as a guide to help you on your way. It will help you see why you have been passed over for promotion, and show you what is really valued by senior managment.
If you are leaving school or university for your first venture into a 'proper' job you should buy this book. It will show you the path, the way you need to go.
THE definitive guide to working for the 21st century!
I'm not usually given to writing any sort of review but having just finished this book and knowing what an inspiration it was to me, I felt it would be a crime not to.
Mr Templar just keeps on hitting the nail on the head with his incisive and succinct style and shows you EXACTLY what it takes to scale the corporate ladder. Forget about hard work and ability - these only account for a comparatively insignificant part of what is actually needed.
I only wish a guide such as this had been available to me when I started out in my career as I could have saved myself the time and effort of actually applying myself to what I should be doing at work. Mr Templar shows us it is just as (if not more) important to concentrate on networking, being seen in the right places with the right people. Also of course the golden rule - It is better to give the IMPRESSION that you can actually do the job, as this will carry you on much farther than your ACTUAL ability in your current role.
This book is truly invaluable and should be compulsory reading in schools and is a must for anyone taking their first tentative steps on the corporate ladder. Fantastic!
The Rules of Work
I thought I was good at my job, on my way up the ladder. This book showed me I was wrong. It is a "bible" that should be read over and over. I wasn't going to be promoted because I wasn't promotable. It's informative, interesting and often quite funny.
Anyone who works in an office will love it! Excellent !
