Editorial Reviews
Review
Just one question to ask, where was this book 30 years ago when I set out for the first time with my reporter's notebook?
Ian Cooper's witty hints and tips can be appreciated even by readers like me who make their living by asking questions. He's recognised that most people, from professionals to fellow passengers on a bus, are more than willing to tackle any query if the approach is right.

A guided tour through a crucial skill to succeeed in life
As I am a bit of an old crusty, who has learned a few good habits but mostly become increasingly stubborn about not changing some bad ones, I found this book very thought provoking.
On one hand it explained very succinctly some skills that I was pleased to discover I seem to have been using sub-consciously, and have developed either instinctively or through sub-conscious learning from others, while on the other hand it alerted me to some good ideas I hadn't heard about or read about before, and pointed out some areas of technique in which I am sure I can improve.
It starts off as an intriguing advice book for life in general, then veers quite firmly in the direction of being advice for people in business, before returning to predominantly advice for life in general towards the end. This pathway did leave me wondering a little about who the book was for. I could imagine that a searcher for life-skills with no interest in business could be alienated by parts of it, but for me it was an enlightening guided tour through many aspects of my business and personal life.
Ian Cooper has unearthed a crucial but simple truth about how to be successful, focused on it, and clearly made himself an expert in it. I think the ideas are very well expressed and the whole is well written.
This book has transformed my life!
I only bought this book last week. I had been feeling quite down and thought it would pass the time on a long train journey and maybe inspire me somehow.
I was not prepared for how it has transformed my life in such a short space of time!
The advice in the book was so clear that I felt sure I could have a go at asking some questions. First I asked the hotel I was staying at on my business trip if there was any chance they could give me an upgrade.. it worked! A few days later I took an opportunity to talk to my boss about a promotion. I would never had dared before but somehow the book had given me the courage to have a go. Since reading the book I have tried a few other things out and have found that I seem to be able to get what I want. I am not a confident person by nature yet this book has given me the encouragement to ask for the things I want in a way that seems to make them happen!
If you want to get all the things you ever wanted but never thought you could... read this book! Seriously, if i can do it, anyone can!
The Art of Asking (Questioning ) - Ian Cooper is 'Just the Man'
Just Ask, is a must read for everyone.
It is one of those great short books covering what may seem like common sense questioning but in reality many of us simply overlook. A perfect book for Business & Personal Development. Direct to the point and beautifully simple - A real gem.
In a nutshell "A wonderfully empowering book - full of practical advice."
