A talented chef and restaurateur makes ingredients sweat
Think Like a Chef is as much a personal insight into Tom Colicchio's growth as a cook as it is a cookbook.

In the former, he talks passionately about his Italian-American childhood, his education as a cook and learning curve in various professional positions, leaving us hungry for more. Those of us who have been to Gramercy Tavern in New York would definitely like to know more about how the kitchen runs and turns out a great range of menu items - from great wine bar food to fine dining.

The recipe section is fun - and tends to focus you on how to make several different dishes out of the same ingredients ie Duck, Apples and Root Vegetables. The recipes are relatively easy for home cooks but could be more populist in their basis. A few standout tips involve the handling of heat, cooking mushrooms and a great recipe for Endive Chutney as a garnish for steak!

Loved the book as a restaurateur and recommend it to anyone serious about cooking
