An Absolute Gem
When Grayson James learns other colonised worlds exist (his sister Katie meets and marries an alien prince in "The Stone Prince"), he quits his job as a detective to join OBI (Otherworld Bureau of Investigations). This is why he finds himself in the legendary Atlantis, a pretty place despite it's monstrous inhabitants. Ordered to retrieve a stone, a weapon guaranteed to bring it's holder victory, Gray's mission becomes steadily more complicated following vicious attacks from a vampire and a demon (humans are seriously hated in Atlantis) which leave him wounded. He also gets somewhat sidetracked from his mission when a seductive female voice suddenly invades his mind, telepathically informing him that she can lead him to the "Stone of Dunamis" if he frees her from demon captivity.
Admitting to having no name, Gray calls the unknown woman Jewel, unaware that she herself is the weapon he seeks and must destroy if necessary. Able to read minds, discern truths and see the future, Jewel has spent most of her life as a spoils of war, used by her master to defeat his enemies. Visions of Gray have haunted her for most of her life and she longs to leave Atlantis and live a normal life on the surface with a loving family around her, yet she knows this future is unlikely. As wars rage for the possession of Jewel, Gray finds himself falling in love; however the pair are aware he intends to return to the surface alone after ensuring Jewel's safety from those that wish to enslave her.
As Jewel attempts to learn more of her parentage, Gray finds himself undergoing frightening changes, taking on characteristics of both the vampire and demon races. The night vision is cool and the flying he could get used to; however the undeniable need to drink Jewel's blood makes him very uneasy. Atlantean born Jewel has no problems with a vampiric bite and actively encourages he bite her, something Gray cannot deny himself.
This is yet another great book from GS. We again meet Grace and Darius (whose story is told in "Heart of the Dragon") when Jewel and Gray seek sanctuary and briefly catch up with Darius' personal war against the vampires. The growing romance between Gray and Jewel is tender and passionate in all the right places and the constant threat of capture by vampires and demons keeps the reader avidly turning pages. This is a wonderful love story whilst remaining action packed - a fantastic read.
wow
I have just fininshed devouring this book which took me one day only, and it has left me wanting more!!!! Grey James is the alpha hero, Jewel is a capitivating woman. Grey is sent to atlantis is recover a jewel which can tell if people are lying and what people are going to do in advance, grey however dosnt know that what he is searching for is acctually the women he is protecting. It is a fast paced book with vampires, dragons, demons and all other sort of creatures that were created by the gods, but cast aside, and left in Atlantis and underwater dome. Grey is the human that has been sent by the humans through a porhole to collect the thing that could bring about the utter disstruction of the whole of this world and others in the wrong hands. Jewel is the one and she has been connected to grey all of their lives and she knows him inside out. He has dreamed of her but that all he thought that they were dreams of a woman who has no name but has been kept prisoner all of her life. I enjoyed this book so much that i have had to buy some of Miss Showalters books!!!!! Go on give it a try. You will like this if you like Christine Feehan..
Gena Showalter Atlantis series
I had read the Nymph King some time ago and when I read one book in a series I feel compelled to buy the rest just to see what happens to the rest of the characters and this book did bring the story forward, this time with a human hero. I must admit I like at least one of the characters to start off human even if they don't stay that way. The hero in this instance is one of a group of elite commmando types who police the Atlantean portals and he is sent to destroy the Jewel of Atlantis which could be too powerful a weapon in the wrong hands, then he meets Jewel and all manner of adventures ensue. If you liked the first one you'll like this one
