The story of a girl who needs to slow down. To find herself. To fall in love. And to discover what an iron is for…
From the Inside Flap
My name is Samantha. I’m twenty-nine years old. I’ve never baked a loaf of bread in my life. I can’t sew on a button. What I do know is how to restructure a corporate finance agreement and save my client thirty million pounds.
Samantha is a high-powered lawyer in London. She works all hours, has no home life, and cares only about getting a partnership. She thrives on the pressure and adrenalin. Until one day . . . she makes a mistake. A mistake so huge it’ll wreck her career.
She goes into meltdown, walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and finds herself in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she is mistaken for the interviewee housekeeper and finds herself being offered the job. They have no idea they’ve hired a Cambridge-educated lawyer with an IQ of 158 – and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven.
Disaster ensues. It’s chaos as Samantha battles with the washing machine . . . the ironing board . . . and attempts to cook a cordon-bleu dinner . . . But maybe she’s not as undomestic as she thought. Maybe, with some help, she can fake it?Will her employers ever discover their housekeeper is actually a top-flight lawyer? Will Samanths’a old life ever catch up with her? And if it does…will she want it back?

Customer Reviews
Kinsella Does It Again!!!
I've been a massive fan of all four Sophie Kinsella books that have been published before this one, they've all been funny and well-written, easy to read and occasionally quite touching in places. The 'Shopaholic...' series is one I like to revisit quite often, and I enjoyed 'Do You Want to Know a Secret?', but 'The Undomestic Goddess' is now my favourite Kinsella book!
It's not as lighthearted as the other books, but it still manages to be funny. Sam's character is very different from Becky Bloomwood et al, she's a high-flying lawyer who's totally career focussed...at first! The story of her transformation is brilliantly entertaining, if a little unbelieveable, and I was really rooting for her all the way through the book.
The ending is a brave attempt at a 'will she, won't she?' for many aspect's of Sam's life, but I found it to drag a little too much before the conclusion (a tiny bit of a cliche, unfortunately) is reached. Sam's love interest, Nathaniel, is a little two-dimensional, and while likeable, I feel that so much more could have been done with his character.
If you've read and liked any of Sophie Kinsella's books before, I can guarantee that you will enjoy this one. Minor faults aside, this is a great holiday read and I loved it.
Playfull and Different
I really enjoyed this read. It was playful, different and full of wonderful characters. I also recommend Fire In The Ice by Katlyn Stewart. This book is passionate as well.
wonderful read
Well done Sophie Kinsella, this book is fantastic it made me laugh out loud. It was an easy read book and you can relate to the character just like we all related to becky bloomwood! Cant wait for sophie kinselas next novel no doubt will be just as good as the rest.
