A great read5
i loved this book i can't wait till the next one, it was great to see them as grown ups and how they struggled with being older teenages and how they were trying to protect each other which just made things worse, it was a great read and follows on well from the other book i think it works well as a stand alone book.
as for age range i'd say 12+ as there is some adult content i think it is done responsible and makes sense to have this in the book as sandry, tris, daja and briar are all about 18 now. it's amust read for all T.P. fans

They've grown up5
If you've read any of the other books involving Tris, Sandry, Daja and Briar this is a great follow on to see how they've grown up. I felt I wanted more on some the travelling stories but there were good links to the original books.

A suberb read!5
The book is well-written with an exciting and fast moving plot. Origional ideas and well-developed, clearly portrayed characers bring a wonderful sense of fun and vividness to the book; especially if you already know the characters. I would estimate readers aged 12-18 would get most from this book.

It is still an excellent novel as a standalone, although if you have read the other books no doubt you will get more from this novel; especially as it ties in with events from 'the circle opens' quartet.

As to whether the book contains content too mature for younger readers, 'the circle opens' quartet surely contains just as much, possibly even more, material which may be considered controversial by some. However, such are the attitdes/personalities of the characters, and the overall message of the books (including the endings) that I really don't think they would be unsuitable for those aged 11+; indeed 'the circle opens' quartet is probably aimed at readers even younger than that, although obviously this would depend on the sensitivity of the reader. In the fist quartet the characters are aged 9-11, the second 13-15, this book 16-18; which is an indication of the ages they may be aimed at. However, this final book seems to have been written in such a way that young readers ploughing through Tamora Pierces' books will still be able enjoy and really appriciate it - and the characters.

If you like magic, fun, adventure, some suberb characters and an intriguing, interesting plot, then try this book. If you have already enjoyed 'the circle of magic' and 'the circle opens' quartets, then this book is a must read!
