A very nice introduction
This work provides general notions of tensor and vector algebra in applied mechanics with special application to Fluid mechanics.
The book is a very good introductory text for students and a precious reference for engineers and scientists. The author is concise and elegant in the explanations. Supplied exercises at the end of each chapter help consolidate the material explained. Commented bibliography is very helpful in deepening the knowledge in a given subject.
The summary in the appendix quite useful for quick browsing over some forgotten property or detail.
I think you probably need to have an MSc already before you read this book
I'm just coming to the end of a maths degree which I haven't much enjoyed. It didn't contain any work on tensors, but it did contain an interesting third year course-unit in fluid mechanics. 30 years ago I knew some tensor calculus which I had learnt from Einstein's The Meaning of Relativity. But this book really killed my interest in the subject. It's high level, and it's arid. Certainly if you are new both to tensors and to fluid mechanics, then I wouldn't touch this book with a barge-pole if I were you! If I'm anything to go by (I'm expecting First Class Honours), then you need to have an MSc, have some prior knowledge of both subjects and be highly motivated to get anything at all from this book.
