This is a powerful description of Borderline Personality
What does a relationship with someone having a Borderline Persoanlity look like? This book is a memoir of such a relationship. Those involved with anybody suffering from Borderline Personality will immediately identify with the story and situations in this carefully crafted book. It is often difficult to explain to others the rages, paranoias, manipulation, suicidality as well as the charm and intrigue of the Borderline sufferer, but this book has captured it all without the vindictiveness or anger that might be expected from such an account. The thinking is clear and the progression smooth. This is a book for families to share with loved ones involved in such relationships. Hopefully it will inspire them to get the treatment neccessary to deal the disorder and its consequences.
A tremendous find, a profound look into the human mind
This book is an important statement that will enhance public
consciousness about a disorder that is universally recognized and
widely discussed within mental health circles. Borderline personality
disorder has levels of prevalence, social dysfunction, health care
utilization, and chronicity that make its public health significance
similar to that of other major psychiatric disorders such as
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression, yet it has not
received comparable attention. Why is this? The answer can be found
in this book. Borderline personality disorder often leaves those who
become intimately involved feeling guilty, helpless, and like they
have personally failed. This is most true for family members or
spouses, but it is also true for most clinicians. These are hardly
the experiences that people want to "go public" with.
A little disappointing.....But still worth reading.
I had been after this book for a very long time and was really happy when I was able to buy it. It was easy to read and told a very interesting tale of how difficult it CAN be to live with a Borderline partner. It gave a good insight of real life and I read it quite quickly, however it did not relate any of the experiences to any of the DSM manuals criteria for BPD. This may be a good thing for most people though, that's just my opinion. I'm just glad it didn't make us people with BPD out to be mad people! Well worth the read though.
