Review
"Despite the rather serious moniker, a cursory flick through the 260-odd full-colour pages reveals an approachable, engaging and, above all, entertaining guide to professional retouching techniques. Illustrated throughout with great visual examples of the many techniques outlined, this is a fantastic resource for every aspiring professional retoucher." Advanced Photoshop, Jan/Feb 2006

About the Author
Glenn Honiball comes from a long line of artistic family members. His grandfather was a cartoonist and a painter, and his father was a very talented artist involved in advertising. In 1985, Glenn started in the pre-press industry and was trained on the million-dollar HELL Chromacom system (which, along with Scitex, was the only proprietary retouching system around) and worked on it for nine years. He also worked on a Silicon Graphics machine running Barco Creator and Alias Eclipse retouching software. Glenn migrated to Photoshop after considerable experience on high-end systems coupled with a good pre-press background. He has worked with several versions of Photoshop and found them easy to learn, having come from a background where string commands were the norm.

A gifted artist shares his secrets5
I started using Photoshop right out of the box and taught myself just by trial and error (clicking on everything). Let’s face

it-it’s an incredible program that is fun to use.

I have done a lot of retouching of my personal photos and for my web page with satisfactory results using some of the most

basic commands. There were always certain things I knew Photoshop could do but didn’t know how to get the results I wanted.

Glenn explains how to make most of the image modifications one could ever want in a very straightforward and easy to

understand way. This book is extremely user-friendly, encourages experimentation and gives us some lessons in our perception

of images from a gifted artist with vast experience in the field. The narration and examples given are almost like having an

old friend sit beside you and take you through the steps. I lost count of the times I smiled or thought “aha” to myself as

the surprisingly simple techniques were revealed.

This book has allowed me to use existing tools I had never known how to properly exploit. It is exactly what a book of this

type should be: A valuable reference that will surely help any retouch artist produce better work in less time.

Adobe should recommend it in their readme file!
