When the first snow falls in a small Minneapolis town, the whole community takes part in a carnival of innocent fun. By the end of the day, the park is full of snowmen. But when the snow melts, it becomes graphically obvious that somebody's fun wasn't entirely innocent ! Two bodies are found in the snowmen, and a day later, in a nearby county, rookie sheriff Iris Rikker makes a similar discovery. Soon Detectives Gino and Magozzi are heading north in the midst of the worst blizzard seen in Minneapolis for years to join the two investigations. But some things should remain buried. And as the cases unravel, it seems the snowmen weren't alone in hiding dark secrets. The old barn next to Sheriff Rikker's isolated farmhouse also appears to have some strange connection to the killings. Could the ghosts said to haunt the place be real? Or will the truth turn out to be even more shocking - and far more dangerous ! Superbly thrilling from the first page to the last, the latest bestseller from the author who brought you "Want to Play?", "Live Bait "and "Dead Run" are back - at their terrifying best.

Snow Blinding
Although there wasn't much mention of the dynamics between the usual crew, this was still a great read. New characters were introduced and it asked some poignant questions about the victims of domestic abuse. This read was well-paced and thought provoking. Instead of more of the same there has been evolution from the authors, which is refreshing and in my opinion worked.
4th book
As a P J Tracy fan I got this book when it came out after a great read of the 3 previous books, especially Dead Run my favourite. The books starts off nicely and does not take long to turn into a "Tracy page turner" I even missed my stop on the London Underground while going to work because I was so engrossed into it.
However, the book slowly turns into a book that you are waiting for to get better expecting something interesting to happen which almost never does.
I noticed a few plot holes with errors in geography and timing that left me disappointed. one of which is the time to of the characters have known each other, so obviously incorrect. These point to my suspicion that the book was rushed.
This medium paced book lacks the action and heart pounding moments from Dead Run. The main character from the first book (Want to play) hardly features which only leads me to believe that P J Tracy may move away from the monkey wrench theme.
Its hardly worth the read if you've not read at lasts one on the previously P J Tracy books, let alone all 3 of them.
Is it worth the cost? Yes I think so, but wait for the paperback to come out if, like me, you're not a hardback book fan.
Different style to the previous books
In the past the humour has been thin but perfectly placed in the series. With this book the first half have had so many one liners and other humourous incidents I was laughing al the time then suddenly the second half turned toward the more serious style normal to PJ & T.
I liked the way the rookie sheriff entered the equation and the descriptions of how other characters reacted to her. There was a bit of a leap in time toward the end and I won't be at all surprised to read more about two new characters. It seemed odd the way the Monkeywrench team was almost invisible this time but I think it was a good thing.
As ever this can be read as a stand alone since the authors have avoided making tight links to the previous three books. A very enjoyable read. Worth the money.
