Excellent, last in the Virgin River trilogy
The last book in the Virgin River Trilogy of Virgin River, Shelter Mountain and now Whispering Rock. Like the others it brings in the characters introduced in Virgin River, which was Jack's and Mel's story.
This last story belongs to Mike and Brie both of whom have had horrific things happen to them and go to Virgin River to recouperate.
Mike is one of Jack's ex-marine buddies who regulary visits Jack's bar in Virgin River for get togethers and hunting. Brie is Jack's youngest sister, a prosecutor. We have seen both of them in the previous books and in Shelter Mountain, Mike who is a detective for LAPD is shot three times by a teenage gang member and goes to Virgin River to get strong and well again. A short time later, Brie's husband leaves her for her best friend; devestated she too goes to Virgin River for a short while. All this has already happened in the second novel when the third book starts.
In the start of this third book Brie has something traumatic happen to her, I won't say what as it will ruin the story for you. Mike, Jack and her family go to her bedside. Mike who is falling in love with her, helps her get through this trauma, as he himself has personally experienced violence with his shooting. However, Mike has the reputation of being a womaniser and Jack in particular is suspicious of his motives, as is Brie herself at first.
This heartwarming book takes you through the lives of the major and minor characters in Virgin River, introducing a few more. It is not as much a suspense as the previous two books, although there is some detecting work for Mike to do in his new role as town constable.
The interaction between individuals and couples is amusing, especially Jack's over the top reaction to a romance between his friend and his little sister and Preacher and Paige's efforts to get pregnant.
Read it, it's a really nice book, but read the other two books first.
