Approach without fear.4
I'm a Daredevil rather than a Bendis fan and so approached this with some trepidation, despite the hype. The first story arc 'Wake Up' is incredible with stunning art from David Mack but as Bendis himself admits his run proper didn't begin until the later pairing with Alex Maleev and an major criticism is that this section of the book begins slowly, taking time to build into a more interesting and satisfying narrative. But it must be stressed that it does pay off. Additionally Alex Maleev's artwork is possibly the best and most appropriate that the title has ever seen, capturing the pulp vibe of the book and making you feel as if you really know Matt Murdock's Hell's Kitchen.
However the book is always going to be compared to Frank Miller's legendary run (which I read for myself for the first time this year) and though it compares favourably it is perhaps a little too familiar.
Bendis' method of taking Matt Murdock apart piece by piece until he is forced by the situation to get his act together again is too reminiscent of what every writer since has done since the greatest Daredevil storyline: Frank Miller's 'Born Again'.
All in all this probably deserves five stars as some of the best superhero writing in a long time (forget Brubaker) and perhaps unfairly gets four for failing to reach the impossible heights of the title's legendary past.

ESSENTIAL!5
Although a comic book fan since my teens (I'm 26 now) I had never read Daredevil, I was aware of the character and his place in the Marvel universe but I was too busy with other titles (Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man). Then came along the movie which I really enjoyed (the Director's Cut even more so) and following Civil War and Ed Brubaker's ground-breaking Captain America run I decided to pick up his Daredevil collections which eventually lead me to this omnibus.

Now I am a HUGE Daredevil fan and will be checking out Frank Miller's stuff but so far as this collection goes it is as I say essential to any comic book fan and anyone who doesn't generally read comics. As with Brubaker's run, Bendis and Maleev's run is every bit as good. Strong dialogue and characterisation, complex psychology, pulse-pounding action and atmospheric film-noir style storytelling. Both the writing and artwork complement each other.

If only all comics where written like this (its how Batman should be handled) then there would be no doubt that they are just for kids!

Classic, a must purchase!!!

Amazing 5
I was never a daredevil fan but i have recently read burbacker run on iron fist and captian america and i couldn't get enough of it and i heard he been doing a brillant run on daredevil so i decide to start reading but i was told before i got into that i should read bendis run so i got this book and i honestly couldn't but it down so to anyone a marvel fan this is for you this is by far bendis is best work and the artwork is superb.
