Product Description

From the Academy Award [registered]-winning studio that has brought us animated hits, such as "Toy Story", "Monsters, Inc.", "Finding Nemo", and "The Incredibles", comes "Cars", a hilarious and heart-warming story of wily race car who discovers that it's not all about going fast - in fact, life begins at the off-ramp. This overflowing scrapbook includes hundreds of pieces of concept art that helped to convert real life imagery and stories from the backroads into rich, memorable characters and colourful backdrops. Pixar has clinched a reputation as the top-shelf, commercial animation studio: "The Incredibles" continued Pixar's streak of great box office success, grossing $260 million at the box office. 2003's "Finding Nemo" made $850 million worldwide and was the No. 1 movie in the US in 2003. It has become the highest grossing animated film of all time (ahead of "The Lion King"). John Lasseter is the director of "Cars" and the creative director of Pixar, and is a two-time Academy Award[registered]-winning director and animator. In addition to serving as head of all of Pixar Animation Studios' creative projects, he directed "Toy Story", "A Bug's Life", and "Toy Story 2".

A beautiful book all fans of the film should own.5
If you've enjoyed Pixar's animated feature film Cars, then this book is for you! This book is filled with production sketches, giving a fascinating insight into the creation of the movie, and page upon page of beautiful paintings of the scenery the film would eventually portray.

The Author, Michael Wallis, is a renowned historian of Route 66 and the voice of "Sheriff" in the film.

If you enjoyed the film, or even if you just like scenic paintings, then add this book to your collection. Admire the glimpse it provides into Pixar's creative process, for there are few things with end products as beautiful.

Wonderful Journey Through Research and Art5
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R3MCZOE5T1YXJD From John Lasseter's foreword:
It also became a journey with its own reward, one we wanted to share with you in this book. -end-

With that, the book brings you onto a fantastic journey on the creative process of creating Cars, the movie close to John Lasseter's heart.

The few pages of stories separating the art let you understand how research was done, what the artists learn and ideas they want to bring across to the audience.

This book is filled with plenty of concept art drawings. Pixar artists draw hundreds of drawings each day but only selected ones were included into the book due to the limited number of pages. Every page is packed with art.

Also included are storyboards, architectural drawings, landscape drawings, lighting studies, car decor sketches, photos from their road trips.

This is a wonderful selection of drawings pulled off directly from the drawing board.

Gorgeous!4
I received this as a gift, after attending the 20 years of Pixar exhibition.
Even though I haven't read all the text yet - this book is worth it for the pictures alone!!

Some absolutely wonderful painted and hand drawn images (among others) fill the pages.
It also gives a good insight into the Pixar design process, and where they got their inspiration from.

If you like Pixar / Cars, you will love this book!
