Everything that you need to know
This book, like the others in the series, contains all you ever wanted to know about photography and then some.
At first glance the book seems far from basic, but as you read it becomes clear on every level.
There is something in this book for every level of photographer of whatever medium you choose, you will find something new to learn, whether as a complete novice wanting to take great shots or the more advanced wanting to freshen up your photography with new methods.
Once you start you will move on to the other books in the series and onto another level.
Excellent book on Photography
I found the Ansel Adams books on "The Print" and "The Negative" a bit on the heavy side, but John Schaefer's book is a superb addition to any aspiring photographer's library. It covers the photographic field very comprehensively and in easily understood English, and without the frills of technical jargon so loved by some authors.
Although the book deals with colour photography as well, I would thoroughly recommend this book to any aficionado of black and white photography-- it is, without doubt one of the best books on photography I have in my library!
Amazing Overview - If that's what you need
If you need a broad ranging overview of Ansel Adam's knowledge, distilled from "The Camera", "The Negative", "The Print" etc, this is for you.
If your focus is on making the image, using light, capturing form etc, look elsewhere. The first chapter is brilliant for this, but after that, the book focuses on development techniques, print techniques and so on.
