"Quite simply this is an excellent book. It is well–written, with snatches of dry humour. It should be mandatory reading for anybody who keeps a dog or has intentions of so doing." —R. W. F. Poole, Daily Telegraph
How do dogs perceive the world about them? How do they see, hear, learn, relate to their owners? How large are their brains, what is their emotional makeup? Why do they suffer from stress and how can it be coped with? Over the last few years a substantial body of knowledge has been built up about the psychology of dog behavior. Combining more than twenty years of practical experience as a veterinary clinician with a personal knowledge and understanding of the latest international research, Dr. Bruce Fogle has written the most inclusive and relevant book on how the canine mind works.

Not the greatest
I am not as enamoured with the book as the other readers. I am studying to be a Dog Obedience Instructor, and although I did find the book to be very informative, it went into way too much detail for the average dog owner to enjoy. In the beginning, when the author is discussing the chemical workings of the dogs brain, I found it to be very dry and thought that a lot of that information was unnecessary unless you happen to be studying to become a vet. However, once you have read the first third of the book, the author starts discussing dog psychology and I found this to be very informative and I would recommend it for this reason.
This book prevents new training mistakes and fixes old ones.
Through excellent illustrations and explanations this book allows you to understand what your dog is telling you even in complex situations. It provides step by step methods for dealing with behavior that other authors wouldn't begin to try to tackle. By applying the advice and enlightment gained from this book, we immediately noticed improvement in our dog's behavior - this guy knows what he is talking about. After reading this book, you will feel like a lot of things have fallen into place, even if you have a lot of experience with dogs. This book pulls it all together.
A must for dog owners or anyone considering becoming one.
I became enthralled in this book. I always considered myself an expert in the field of dogs. I have lived with dogs all my life, but not until reading this book understood them so well. I have recently ordered The Cat's Mind, also by Fogle, and can't wait to read it. The Dog's Mind truly gave me a wonderful look at my favorite companions. I recommend this book to all dog lovers.
