What is an American university education really like? How big is the culture shock for British students? What funding is available? And how does one negotiate the application process? With 7 out of 10 of the top universities in the world in the US, there's a lot of scope for Brits to find a superb education over there. This new book sets out to answer these questions and give an objective guide to students wanting an alternative to British universities. With UK students being asked to pay large sums for a university education whose quality has been compromised by decades of under-funding, and with students from rich families being turned away in favour of kids from tough state schools, more and more are looking to the quality of courses, teaching and facilities available in the US. Enquiries to the US Educational Advisory Service rose seven-fold during 2003/4, and have already exceeded that total this year.

Editorial Reviews
John Clare, The Daily Telegraph
...A useful introduction to the US university system, including costs, and admissions tests, followed by illuminating profiles of 24 institutions
From the Inside Flap
Once you’ve seen what’ on offer in America, you may never look at a UCAS form again.
Compare the quality of teaching, the quantity of teaching too, the facilities, the range of institutions and courses. Take a wondering look at the breadth of a Liberal Arts degree. See what you get for your time and money in the USA.
Many of the world’s best universities are there – seven out of the top ten, and another 48 that rank above Newcastle (as ranked in the Times Higher Educational Supplement of 5th November 2004). Seriously well-funded universities which may well bear some – perhaps all – of the cost of your degree.
Open your eyes to the opportunities.
The contributors:

Stephen Baldock, for twelve years High Master of St Paul’s School in London, shares his views on the benefits that many of his former students have gained from going to university in the US.

Outdated
This guide is good for getting a feel for the universities it covers, however, the financial aid information is wrong or outdated. The book was published in 2005 and I suppose a lot of these universities have changed their policies since then, so be careful if you follow this guide, it is misleading.
If all of the information was correct then it would be a very good guide.
Good book.
It has everything an international student needs to know.
The one star is missing simply because none of the colleges in the book are any that I am considering.
