A missed opportunity
Theoretically this ought to be a very useful text for shooters. Unfortunately it is riddled with errors. The 200 or so spelling errors I have noted one can live with but I have noted at least 40 of substance and even occasions where the author contradicts himself. Given the error rate I feel I cannot rely on any of the text. A great pity. If the author wants my detailed comments to feed into a thoroughly revised and proof read 3rd edition I would gladly supply them.
An wealth of interesting facts and figures
OK, so the grammar isn't perfect and there are some dodgy spellings in there. I don't know enough about the subject to commment on the accuracy of his calculations but I just wanted to know more about ballistics and, for that purpose, this book is just excellent. From an explanation of ballistic gyroscopics to a comparison of the amount of recoil from different rounds, from maximum range to bullet design, from velocity to rifling and wind deflection. It's all in there and it's all interesting. It's the sort of book you can pick up in a spare moment and learn something to irritate your shooting colleagues with. It depends on your level of knowledge and how techie you want to get - I've been shooting for thirty odd years and found lots of interesting stuff to read and learn.
Brilliant!! A must for Sportsman, Hunters, Target shooters-
This new edition has been rewritern, additional charts, extra drawings and extra chapter has made this book a must for sportsman, hunters, target shooters, researchers and reloaders. For people with some basic knowledge of Firearms this book is the starting point to learning about Firearms Ballistics, from basic to advance levels. It is within the ability of almost anyone to understand the author Robert A. Rinker in his clear way of explaination. The book goes indepth e.g Primers,Powder & Gas Expansion/Gyroscpic Stability/Mathematics/Rifling-Twist/Velocity & Drag etc...(to many to list, but hopefully give's a general idea of area's the book cover's. I found it a pleasure to read and find it very useful as a reference guide still.
