Sister Souljah is best known for her work as a political activist and educator of underclass urban youth. A graduate of Rutgers University, she is a beloved personality in her own community. She lives in New Jersey City with her husband and son.

good book
i really enjoyed this book. the way how souljah showed bilal's (midnight) eventual emigration into the american society was well written. the way for his own survival in the projects how we had to externally ditch his culture and tradition e.g african clothes, and his accent etc but internally never forgot who he was an african brought up with islamic principals and culture. she also demonstrated excellently i felt the contrast in mentalities of the american boys mindset and midnights one.

although a lengthy read, it was an educational one, bound to break many of the stereotypes currently hindering above young black borthers.

she gave us an insight into islamic principles and also an insight into a bit of the sudanese culture which was very nice of her.

too many people are stuck in their own cultures to give a damn about anyone elses

i feel that this novel was a breath of fresh air to the usual negative gang banging, sex drugs, gangsters, books that are out there.



P.S this is not the sequel to coldest winter ever as souljah did say it would be Porsche, Winter's younger sister narrating the sequel.

although this book has received many negative reviews especially on the USA amazon.com site,

i feel people should drop thier pre meditated judgements and give this book a chance otherwise you are bound to the find the book boring, and probably unrealistic to the usual gang banging hoes, hype that most readers are expecting from a black author writing a story about the "projects" in BK or BX, new york.

Beautiful
I found this book to be a beautiful depiction of a perspective I would never have thought I could relate to on so many levels.
Avid readers of Sister Souljah like myself will be used to her straight to the point style, I have never known her to mince her words and would never want her to. She gives an insight of what it is like to be so different from what others consider to be normal and how not to lose yourself within a society that does not celebrate truth but fantasy.

I am disappointed that it has taken so long for a offering from the author, however I was extremely happy with my purchase, it was all that it needed to be, as a mother trying to raise children in this society I am glad that Sister Souljah puts her beliefs out there on realistic issues that some people are faced with, for some it may be hard to digest, others might choose to ridicule what she has to say, yet I am proud of Sister Souljah, her ability to remain unafraid and to speak on atrocious situations that millions face and struggle to deal with in my opinion makes her a powerful voice that females of colour should continually be exposed to.

Many of the situations touched on in this book, if conversed in everyday conversations would probably be met with uncomfortable silences, such is the rawness of her prose, yet she creates dialogue where others fail to find the words and that is what makes her an exceptional writer in my opinion.

This is a book which questions the silent moral code of a society that fails to relate to anything that has not been exposed in bitesize pieces, reallife is not like that, sometimes hitting raw nerves creates real action, it is oftentimes societies inability to deal with the real that provokes negative reactions.

I would recommend this book to everyone who has female relatives whether it be grandmother, mother, aunt, sister or cousin. in these times that we are living in, any opportunity to create dialogue with each other should be celebrated.

midnight- good read
This book Midnight: A Ganster Love Story, is so beautifully written. i was unable to put it down, just like sista souljah's first 2 books. but don't get it twisted none of the characters that were in The Coldest Winter Ever are in this book.
This is all about bilal "Midnight" and HIS family, HIS Faith, HIS loves, likes and dislikes.

I was a breath of fresh air to read about a strong young black BOY, working and taking care of his own like a strong black man should. It's hard to remember that this boy/ young man only reaches the age of 14-15.
Sista souljah gives you a great insight to how people in another religion celebrate and worship what and who they believe in.
It makes you realise that every bodies way of life should be respected even if it is not what you believe in or the way you live your life.

This 3rd book by sista souljah, was long awaited and well worth the wait, like the first two books it is deep, straight to the point and direct.
this book will speak to you, characters who remind you of others, may even remind you of yourself

it's a great buy, good book
