Synopsis
Transman - Bite size provides a brief, easy to read, insight into transsexualism for the general public, from the personal expereince of a British female to male transman. This autobiography takes you the reader, step by step, through the journey of how a biological female, a mother of four, a wife twice over, and ex-model; a real woman in the eyes of society became a father, with a career as a Trainer & Counsellor, soon to be a husband. In short - a real man in the eyes of society. There are over 35 photographs capturing the life of the author and his transition process through to completion. These photo's bring the text to life and help you the reader fully understand the mammoth task of changing gender roles within society. Some subjects covered include the challenge of coming out to family, Chest and Genital sugery the pro's & con's, the taboo subject of Sex and how that works, Relationships and much more. There are also many passages from the authors personel diary kept throughout the transition. There are so few books available to the general public on female to male transsexuals, yet the story of how ordinary men live extraordinary lives simple by being born in the wrong body needs to be told.

This book is one of those stories, one persons journey of self discovery and hopefully for you the reader, an interesting journey through words and pictures, of a British female to male transman.

A brave and personal story5
This is a brave and personal story of one mans journey to make his body reflect the gender his mind knew that he always was. It is an important addition to the ranks of transgender writing.

It is written in an informal style as he would tell it if spoken which may not be to everyones taste. It suffers from a spellchecker and some poor grammar and punctuation. It would have benefited from some proofreading and professional editing. However none of the foregoing should stop you buying the book, it is eminently readable.

The author has crammed a lot into its few pages and maybe was constrained by this. The book covers two areas. Firstly its auto biographical and I found these details fascinating. Rico really has the ability to set a scene and convey the atmosphere of a period. The other area covered is that of a self help/ professional guidance book. Here although hes obviously very experienced and knowledgable it does have an element of evangialism about transexualism.

The transgendered community argue over labels endlessly and what they mean (no one likes having someone elses label and their definition of it being pinned to them). Throughout the book the term Tranz is used as if it is an accepted orthodoxy. It is a term I have never heard anyone else use. I use this as an example of why *professionals" must realise that this book is one persons story and views and not the be all and end of how to deal with every transgendered person they come across.

Ricos partner has written a chapter in the book of her life with him. For me this was a difficult chapter to read. I found the physical details of their lovemaking rather embarrassing. I felt it was something too private to tell. Yes maybe it has a place in a book for professionals but not in a book for the general public.

So all in all I'm glad I bought it and I can reccomend it to both the casual and professional reader. I belive the author intends to write two more books about his journey. I will be buying them.

TRANSMAN - Bitesize5
I found this book extremely educational!

The life story of the author, along with the pictures really brings this book to life. I had so many asumptions about someone that was transsexual(bought about by the media and nurture while growing up),that were totally smashed by this book being published!

The book is in easy (bitesize chunks) to read format. In simple language, instead of filling your head with the usual medical complexities of the transition process.

I feel it is an absolute 'must buy', for anyone employed in Equalities/Diversity, to give them a greater understanding of a section of the population that are truely a minority, and totally misunderstood by the general population - due to little being known publically about transexualism and all that the condition entails.

All to often, transsexuals are portrayed in the media in a negative light. Only through educating ourselves, if the government/schools/media will not assist us, can we break the cycle of discrimination toward this group of indiviuals, through books like this. I for one, will now be on the lookout for other books such as this to gain a greater understanding for myself.

Would be good if schools could have a copy (if only one) in their library, this would help children to understand, and hopefully assist to deter certain types of 'Hate Crime' from occuring, and would also assist any child that may have this condition to find the answers they are looking for.

Well done to the author, I look forward to any other books you may decide to pen in the future.

Many thanks.

Brilliant, Easy to read, Amazing and a must read.5
Being a ftm (female to male) transsexual myself i have read many books by ftms but this is the one book that i have found that explains the experience of being a transsexual that even non-transsexual individuals can understand. This is a much needed book and i praise the writer and his partner for sharing even the most intimate of experiences with the reader. For the first time i have found a book on the subject of ftms that i can give to friends, family and anyone who wants to know what it is like to be ftm. Thank you Rico.
