Informative and satisfying
Pope Benedict has packed into these pages a succinct account of the life and a summary of the main teachings of all the early Fathers of the Church. This is a treasure trove for one who is not a scholar but wishes to know something of the early Teachers of Christianity. In one handy volume we have here a flavour of each of those early Fathers.

The Pope explains the doctrine of the Church.
Very readable, short and erudite chapters each dealing with on of the great Christian teachers of the first 600 years of the Church's history. They are slightly adapted from Pope Benedict's General audiences in 2007-8 and he explains not only how the Fathers explained the faith in their times but how what they said is relevent to today. I highly recommend this book. Each chapter could well be included in the Office of Readings.
