A woman held captive, will she be rescued in time?
This is a seriously unusual book. Those who have had the pleasure of reading the Laura Adams classic "Cristabel" will know of Ms. Adams' (aka Karin Kallmaker) ability to build tension and suspense in her novels.
Night Vision is unusual because the readers know what is going on long before the characters wake up to the truth. It is not so easy to deal with the concepts Ms. Adams brings into the story. This is a book with a significant amount of pain and not a little horror. A small group of women discover that a woman is being held captive. They have a link to her and can experience her pain, fear and the abuse she is subjected to. They must try to help her, but where can they start? The tension mounts as the woman's captors exercise their power over her more and more aggressively. Staggeringly, there seems little sense of urgency with our would-be rescuers. They seem to have time for many a meal and a shower or several whilst the poor woman is being subjected to untold horrors. Still, this was a minor irritation in an otherwise captivating novel. The story does open rather laboriously, but picks up quite quickly and develops into a tense and good quality read. Okay, the ending does get a bit silly, but that was well sign-posted earlier in the book, and should not deter readers. Laura Adams is always good value. This is book is no exception.
