Product Description

The Hunter, the first book in the Parker series, is the story of a man who hits New York head-on like a shotgun blast to the chest. Betrayed by the woman he loved and double-crossed by his partner in crime, Parker makes his way cross-country with only one thought burning in his mind - to coldly exact his revenge and reclaim what was taken from him! Richard (Donald Westlake) Stark's groundbreaking Parker books are adapted for the first time as a series of graphic novels by Darwyn Cooke. The initial graphic novel brings to life the first Parker book, The Hunter, which introduces readers to the dangerous anti-hero's cold and calculated world of criminals, thugs, and grifters.

The Hunter/Point Blank.5
This is the one Hollywood ruined as Point Blank, and almost got right as Payback. Parker's relentless pursuit of the partner who took off with the proceeds of a robbery plus Parker's woman leads him into battle against the Mob.

Payback's biggest error was the description of Porter (Hollywood never calls him Parker for some reason) as a small-time crook. As the book explains, he almost starves after escaping custody to make his way to New York, because he's forced to steal food and is not used to stealing anything small! Tersely written and fast-moving, Richard Stark never disappoints his readers.

It's good to be bad5
I saw a preview of this book on the idw publishing website and it really piqued my interest. I have never read the novel from which this book is adapted from, but I have seen the movie point blank directed by john boorman and starring lee marvin, which I love. This version is much darker and makes point blank seem alot more two dimensional and weak.
First of all the design of this book is beautiful, The art is stunning and simple with it's blue monochromatic tone's. The story telling is stellar and flows beautifully from panel to panel and page to page, Darwyn Cooke's drawing's are simple, cartoony and atmospheric, evoking the feeling of nineteen forties film noir.
The main character in this book, Parker is not a man to trifle with, he is a ruthlessly efficient individual who will stop at nothing to get what he want's and nothing and nobody is going to get in his way, certainly not sentiment.

As good as the book4
This is a special treat for all Stark (or Westlakee) fans. The story is well reproduced and adapted. The suspense is there, the violence is there and the mood is there. What more can you ask for? Well, a slightly clearer typeface would help as some individual letters appear a little unclear. Also I didn't think Parker looked like that (no, I didn't think he looked like Lee Marvin or Mel Gibson or Jack Palance either). Go get it if you have not already done so.
