One of the best fantasy artists around5
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R2G6DJD39HB9KJ Paul Bonner is one of the finest fantasy illustrator around. This book is a collection of over 150 paintings he has created for many big name clients, namely Games Workshop, Mutant Chronicles, Fasa, Riot Minds and Rackham.

I love his style of mixing stylized creatures, extreme details and a little quirkiness into all his paintings. Imagine a desperate monster holding a human hostage, or maybe an orc wearing the head of a mammoth as helmet. The details in the design of characters, costumes and background makes everything looks so believable.

Although his paintings capture a frame in fantasy time, I always imagine what would happen in the next frame, to learn more about the story of that world. The composition is wonderful, always framing the scene when the characters are suspended in action.

And all these paintings are done on traditional medium. There are a few photos of his workplace at the back.

Throughout the book, there are writeup from people he has worked with. He also talks about his college days, his travels in Europe and his creative process.

If you're interested in fantasy art with lots of orcs, dragons, warriors, intricate armour design and dinosaurs, this book is for you. Oh, there are no elves, but there are a few human character designs as well.

The book is printed in low gloss high art quality paper.

Sublime lunacy5
Opening this book is like pulling up a chair at the mad hatters tea party. You never know what inspired madness awaits around the corner but you are sure of being entertained.
This excellent collection of Bonner's work is a great introduction. Some of his finest work is here & it's all beautifully printed. If you are a fan of sci-fi/ fantasy art then you need to take a look.
Many pieces are serious & thought provoking but for my money it's the eye kidnapping lunacy of his ogres, orcs, dwarves & wolves that really elevate his work. Wielding unfeasably large weapons, teeth gritted & muscles bulging we are presented with armies going at it hammer & tong, a myriad of fantasy creatures of all shapes & sizes trudging through snow, water & forests to get at each other. Doomed heroes defiant to the last as they face insurmountable odds, monsters the size of houses swinging axes and wizards being sneaked up upon by huge stealthy dragons.
This is great fun & superbly painted at the same time.
Each time I open the book there is something I missed. The attention to detail is staggering.
An excellent book of a truly original artist that really shouldn't be missed. Highly recommended.

You can see the wood.....5
This is what every Art of... book should aspire to. The production and quality of reproduction is by far the best I've come across. Paul Bonner's work is awe inspiring and whether you find all his paintings exactly to your taste (and I have to admit, not all of them do it for me) you've got to hand it to the guy; he can paint amazing pictures. The text is enlightening and not a little humourous and gives a good insight. into the way he works
Deserves to be up there with Lee and Howe as a great traditional (as opposed to Photoshop/Painter MCXXIV) fantasy artist. Buy it.
