Editorial Reviews
Review
"Glorious and grisly." --Rue Morgue "An instant horror classic." --Paul Goat Allen, BN.com I've admired Wellington's short stories in such collections as THE UNDEAD and BRAINCHILD, but standing out on his own, he proves himself the real deal. Horror fans - and even non-horror fans who can't resist cat-and-mouse adventure - will be marooned happily on this ISLAND. - Rod Lott, Bookgasm "Excellent... It's got all the stuff a zombie aficionado wants." -- BoingBoing.net

The definition of silly
Zombie novels obviously require suspension of disbelief but it would take much more than that to take Monster Island seriously.
A rag tag group of teenage girl guerrilla warriors from Somalia and an American weapons inspector sail from Africa to New York to search for AIDS medication needed by a local warlord.
Trouble is, society has buckled under the weight of a plague of walking corpses and NYC is home to a million undead ghouls - including one that can still think and has the power to command the armies of shuffling undead munters.
As if that wasn't ridiculous enough, the story also features ancient mummies in the metropolitan museum being reanimated and a Scottish mummy who is straight out of Saturday morning cartoons.
Monster Island is utterly unconvincing and lacks any real tension, characterisation or depth.
Anyone intersted in the genre should check out World War Z by Max Brooks, which presents a chillingly plausible global collapse and comments on the futilty of a society unprepared for disaster.
Page turner!
This book is action packed from start to finish - it doesn't let your heart rest for a minute! The characters are uniquely engaging and each one is well drawn from the teenage Somali girl soldiers to the actual zombies themselves! Wellington also gives the zombie zenre a unique twist by writing half of the novel from the monster's point of view. I'd be surprised if the film rights hadn't already been snapped up. I can't wait to get the next in the series! This is pulp fiction at it's best!
The best piece of fiction since the stand
Buy this book! David Wellington is a master of suspenseful writing! I've been reading his work for almost two years and it's been an amazing and it all started here. Monster Island was the first in a trilogy depicting the small percentage of the world still breathing after the dead decide to take a stroll and devour the living. Wellington breaks new ground in this genre, no other director or author has channeled his love and amazing literary ability into his work with such fervor. When the book was serialized online he had his followers counting the days until a new part was available and now he is being recognized with the publishing of Monster Island. For those of you who are a fan of George Romero then you must read this novel, David serves up a helping of undead fun on a tray of cataclysmic proportions. Brian Keene's "The Rising" was proclaimed to be "A top-notch horrifying thriller", but next to the produce of Mr Wellington's imagination, "The Rising" is about as scary as kissing your grandmothers fuzzy top lip at Christmas. If this isn't your normal cup of tea, buy it for someone else, then borrow it! This is the story of the struggle between the good and the downright mean, a father's worry for his daughter trapped thousands of miles away with a crazed warlord, and a New York City that remains congested months after the traffic falls silent. The book will appeal to all. Please buy this book, It'll be worth your while and you wont be disappointed, I promise. Adrian Padden.
