Customer Reviews

Very US-Centric but also very good.4
I suppose that one can forgive 'Life Magazine' for emphasising the American experience of history and they certainly do in this book. The American images outnumber the rest by far but they are almost all interesting and many are classics. All the images are notated and many are full page. I do wish that publishers would desist from printing images across two pages though. I'd rather have an image half the size than one that loses it's composition because of the page break! OK, the images: they vary from the very earliest images available (including literally the very first) to fantastic 19th Century portraits and landscapes (Boston from a balloon is really interesting) to famous 20th Century work (Bonny and Clyde), images of history all through the years and even the (alleged) very first digital still image. For the price this is an interesting and worthwhile book.
