When Technology Fails You Might Need Some More Books3
I have recently finished reading this book with a very distinct title. The idea behind the book is brilliant to combine all sorts of information needed for different aspects of survival and low tech living in one title. However the book does not in my opinion live upto expectations. Its totally geared towards the american reader without even giving equivalent temperatures in degrees celsius or any metric measurements. The other complaint i have about this book is the way every chapter ends with .....is beyond the scope of this book try some of the brilliant books in the bibliography to find out more about this. The author himself is not knowledgable enough on alot of the aspects he's written about; survival shelters, growing vegetables, making pots and utensils, hunting and making bows and gives too little detail on other sections to be of serious practical use. However the sections well known to the author are written in great detail; metal working, water filters, home electrics, engineering and mathematics. A mixed bag of a book which i don't think lives up to expectations, would probably better suit an american reader

I also found this book had a heavy american bias. Perhaps the americans think they will be the only ones affected!! Seriously though, this is a helpful book if you think in UK terms and bear in mind the differences. It raises the questions that you need to think about and gives a starting point for research.
