Product Description

Lance Armstrong became famous as an American athlete in a sport dominated by Europeans. But it was his highly publicised battle with cancer that made him a hero. BIOGRAPHY follows the brash Texan from his angry childhood to his record breaking sixth consecutive Tour de France victory in 2004, victories that were shared with canceer victims and survivors worldwide. In probing interviews, Lance talks about how he fought the disease, while his mother, friends, teammates and rivals offer intimate insights into his personality, both on the race course and off it. Interspersed with footage of his greatest victories, this is a moving portrait of an athlete who has fought back from the brink to transcend his sport.

Customer Reviews

mediocre doco' about an exceptional man1
This is a pretty basic documentary about Lance, complete with a cheesy sound track, over dramatised commentary and some exceptionally tacky editing.

terrible, cheap...1
Truely terrible. A low budget collection of clips, stills and interviews with friends and family. There are only about six cycling clips that are used over and over again, and the clips have little or nothing to do with the narration... An absolute waste of money, even for a die-hard Lance fan.

Not as bad as other reviewers suggest3
I got this DVD as part of a boxed set of Lance Armstrong DVDs - I had bought the set for one of the other DVDs and having seen the other Amazon reviews of this particular DVD had assumed I wouldn't like it. Actually it wasn't that bad. Unlike the other Armstrong DVDs I have seen which are mainly just clips of his Tour de France victories (and therefore not that exciting if you have already watched those Tours de France already), this documentary instead focused much more on his life off the bike which I had previously known comparatively little about. I wouldn't say I am a massive Armstrong fan (though I respect his Tour victories) but I did find this worth watching - particularly the parts dealing with his earlier life and his battle with Cancer. Also I didn't find it as sycophantic as one reviewer suggested. I wouldn't pay the full recommended retail price for this given that it is only about 45 minutes long but this is worth a watch particularly if you can pick it up for a more realistic price. I think the one star reviews are a bit OTT frankly.
