Manufacturer's Description
BRITA AquaFountain water filter chiller white.

The Brita AquaFountain is the first ever water filter chiller to deliver BRITA filtered water. It has been created in partnership with Breville to ensure users get the best of both worlds: technology from leaders in both electrical appliances and water filtration.

The AquaFountain features Breville's blue illumination feature and uses the BRITA Maxtra cartridge. It also features 'Memo', the electronic cartridge exchange indicator to remind users when to change the cartridge. AquaFountain holds up to 4 litres of filtered water. A flip-top lid makes it easy to fill and a convenient lever dispenser makes it easy to extract chilled filtered water.

    Breville Water Filter/Chiller2
I have to say I agree with everything the previous reviewer says about the Breville water filter/chiller.

We too had one of the first models from Breville and were very happy with it too. It only lasted for 2 years with us too.

This new one makes a humming noise - not silent like the old one; is lit up all the time; the water comes out of it at a very slow rate; needs the filter changing EVERY 4 weeks instead of every 6 MONTHS; you can only fit in a small glass under the tap making trying to fill bottles impossible; to refill it you have to move it from under the above cupboards (we've got it placed underneath the overhead cupboard) and isn't as easy to re-fill as the last models; the water in the top keeps luke warm - not sure it's healthy?

Also to clean it you have to remove the filter EVERY time.

All in all I think this model is a big step backwards for Breville and I certainly wouldn't buy this model again. I thought I would be buying a new more updated & BETTER model to replace my old one - I was wrong.

    Good Concept - Poor Implementation1
I'm on my second unit now as I like the concept so much and it looks really cool! Sorry other reviewer, but I like the blue lights!

However, I can't cope with the fact it seems to run for about 20 hours (estimate) a day. You take a small amount of water out on the rare occasion the chiller is not running, and within a minute the motor kicks in again for another couple of hours! And it's quite noisy, so you don't want to put this in your study if you need silence to think.

I took my first one back and took a replacement, as I like the look of the unit, and the water does taste better than straight out the tap, but the replacement one is just the same. For the energy conservationists the chiller runs using a steady 60-65 watts, and 4 watts in standby with the blue lights on.

So I'm going to get a refund on the second one and investigate the many options available for an extra tap on my sink connected to the cold mains, with a filter attached.

I really wish they had put a more effecient chilling unit in the fountain, as it looks great about the home and the drinking water is great, but I can't cope with it running almost non-stop even with minimal use.

Great product, poorly implemented, so I recommend giving it a miss until they review the design of the components.

    Big, noisy and slooow1
Having had a previous incarnation of a Breville water chiller, I was happy to purchase this even though it is quite expensive for what it does. I returned it the next day as it:

    - is very big
    - is very noisy and seems to be constantly chilling the water
    - is fiddly to top up the water
    - drips water out of the dispensing spout
    - needs a replacement cartridge every month(!) compared to 6 months for the old one
    - is very slow when actually dispensing the water compared to the old one

Also you cannot turn off the very bright blue lights on it (which in my opinion are very garish) without turning the whole unit off.
