Academy Award Winner Susan Sarandon stars alongside Danny Glover, Brian Dennehy, Delroy Lindo, David Brown Jr. and Aidan Quinn in a stunning exposé of the American Criminal Justice System. Based on the award winning critically acclaimed play, The Exonerated tells the gripping true stories of six people who were wrongly convicted and sentenced to death for crimes they did not commit and, in the face of new evidence, exonerated before their execution. This moving and compelling film is derived from real interviews, letters, transcripts and public records to tell the story of the lives that were destroyed despite evidence that could have freed them. Sonia Sunny Jacobs (Susan Sarandon) - A young mother and her husband are wrongly convicted of killing a police officer. After spending years on death row, she is finally exonerated and released. For her husband, it was too late, he had already been executed. David Keaton (Danny Glover) - An 18 year old man is sentenced to death after being coerced into confessing to a murder he did not commit. Kerry Max Cook (Aidan Quinn) A young Texan man is convicted of rape and murder and endures 22 years on death row until DNA evidence proves his innocence. Gary Gauger (Brian Dennehy) A farmer is sentenced to death for the murder of his parents after being persuaded by interrogators into confessing. Years later he is released after it is determined there was no physical evidence linking him to the crime. Delbert Tibbs (Delroy Lindo) An all white jury convicts an African American man of rape and murder. The sentence is eventually overturned for lack of evidence linking him to the crimes. Robert Earl Hayes (David Brown Jr.) - An African American man is convicted of the rape and murder of a white woman. He is sentenced to death despite evidence of a long blond hair found clutched in the victim s hand. Imagine everything you did between the years of 1976 and 1992.......Now remove all of it. The DVD release of this film is being fully supported by Amnesty International who have kindly donated 2 bonus features.

Synopsis
Court TV's THE EXONERATED is a conscience-pricking docudrama about six real-life death-row inmates who faced last minute reprieves on the eves of their executions due to newly acquired DNA evidence. Director Bob Balaban (best known for his role as Russell Dalrymple on SEINFELD) assembles a top notch, star-studded cast for this emotionally harrowing study of social injustice, with Susan Sarandon, Brian Dennehy, Danny Glover, Delroy Lindo, Aidan Quinn, and David Brown, Jr., turning in powerful performances as the wrongly accused.
Customer Reviews
Not what I expected
This is simply a documentary about death row-ers who have been let off. As it's directed by the great Russell Dalrymple I suppose I expected it to be at least a fictional story with a satisfying conclusion, but no, it's completely factual. No mean feat in its own genre, but I wanted something a bit lighter....
