Video Description
Wake up, America! We're on the brink of a financial meltdown. I.O.U.S.A. boldly examines the rapidly growing national debt and its consequences for the United States and its citizens. Burdened with an ever-expanding government and military, increased international competition, overextended entitlement programs, and debts to foreign countries that are becoming impossible to honor, America must mend its spendthrift ways or face an economic disaster of epic proportions.

Synopsis
Exposing the economic crisis currently facing the United States, I.O.U.S.A. pulls no punches in its grim projection of the country's financial future. The documentary identifies key factors such as greater international competition, foreign debt, as well as the excessive spending of America's own government and military; all of which far exceeds the tax produced by its own citizens. A fascinating if ultimately terrifying film, I.O.U.S.A. is a sophisticated account of a growing global issue.

An amazing film - simultaneously funny and yet made so it is easy to grasp 'difficult' economic issues. The film was shortlisted for an Oscar and deservedly so. Should be required viewing for everyone who has an interest in the future of the world - and especially bankers, and government officials. Nice graphics, great music, polished filmic quality.

They should transmit this film on every TV channel at exactly the same time...4
Ask a kid what 'APR' stands for, there's only a limited chance that they would know the answer. It's the same with 'AER', 'Loan-To-Value Ratio', 'Early Redemption Penalty'.

Now ask an adult what a 'CDO' is, or maybe a 'Precipice Bond' or 'Short'. It's the same story. That's where this film comes in. It's no wonder that bankers were able to get away with what they did - they simply blinded the rest of us with science, or at least the vast majority of the population who don't understand (or want to understand) technical financial terms.

By the way, this film isn't your typical economic overview, it's very interesting and you don't require a degree in economic fundamentals to understand the dialogue.

Once you've watched this one, 'Maxed Out' is even better. They should show that one in schools...
