Go here after Doige :) Enjoyable, approachable, more detail yet still aimed at laymen. More detail on functions etc than Doige. Uses case stories to illustrate ideas however.

Good introduction with enough details on the basics. Various pathways are explained for example, a solid start on basic neuroanatomy is offered here yet it is straightforward for this Joe Bloggs :)

Beautifully detailed and LOTS of depth-Use this to supplement the Neuroscience book if your going into it this far :) Explains structure and concise functions are noted.

If you want LOTS of in depth detail on ion channels, synapses and neurotransmitters plus what/how drugs work on them-start here. This is the most advanced text on the list. Very good so far however.

Excellent, clear and concise. If you don't have much chemistry this will help with any you may need for the other titles here.

Very clear straightforward start-doesn't blind with math in the initial chapters either. Assumes little knowledge in the beginning apart from perhaps bonds, elements etc.

Very handy if your actually formally studying this and want to train your memory on the subject. Worth the pennies!

Acuired for a course I may take in Bham! I put this in between 4 and 5 on this Listmania list so far. Doesn't go into exhuastive depth like Bear BUT covers a wider range than 4. Aimed as an intro

Got this by mistake-worth my keeping though!Concise text and readable-for this kind of book. Easier than Haines as well.

I wanted a good physio overview and spent time to find this one seemed well regarded overall. I chose it over a more clinical book as I simply want in depth understanding of the body. Very clear.

Bought because of very excellent imagery and straightforward descriptions. LOTS on the limbic structures in this one and memorable pics of the same.

Post grad level. Clear writing-Lots of depth. I'm pleased with this one.
