First published in 1945, this new printing of the first major publication by Joseph H. Pilates and William J. Miller details the exercises, poses, and instructions fundamental to the matwork developed by Joseph and Clara Pilates. Based on his concepts of a balanced body and mind and drawn from the approach espoused by the early Greeks, these are the exercises that currently sustain a world-wide revolution in fitness strategies and exercise techniques. Readers will learn the original 34 exercises that Pilates taught to his students, many of whom have become exercise gurus in their own right. These carefully designed exercises are the result of decades of scientific study, experimentation and research into the variety of physical ills that upset the balance of body and mind. In this book, readers will learn the exercises that Joseph Pilates recommended to accompany the basic advice regarding posture, body mechanics, correct breathing, spinal flexibility, and physical education.

The REAL Pilates is this!
I've got 3 other Pilates "Best Sellers" and they are all very glossy & interesting. But this one is different not only because it lacks glossy pics but because it mentions the real reason for doing such exercises. i.e not only to look good. It mentions blood circulation, and the importance of allowing your skin to breathe (detox) and a much fuller explanation of deep breathing. Also there's some stuff on eating too. Much deeper than your average Pilates book and it's from the man himself.A classic - go buy it!

Not worth the paper it's printed on.
This book was such a disappointment to receive. The mistakes are too numerous to mention, from spelling mistakes to picture and annotation mistakes. If Presentation Dynamics are going to recreate an original masterpiece then they could at least do it properly and do it justice. The first mistake is on page three and I have scribbled marks all the way through the other painful mistakes... Yes the photographs of Joseph are interesting, but the whole thing is a shambles and nothing like the original.
Excercises, Poses and Instructions,
This book is crammed with excersises, poses and instructions. It is fasinating to study these exercises and discover the origins of what is being taught by fitness enthusiasts, health educators and exercise trainers around the world. A very detailed book.
